From a time when the future was bright... not to say that the present 'future' necessarily is not, but there's something about the 50's/60's pop culture sci-fi which radiates optimism and progress... just compare the 60's Star Trek (or the Jetsons, for that matter) with, say, Blade Runner and everything that came after...
