vandalism?

Street art is in my opinion a little bit overrated. I used to spray tunnels and buildings and all kinds of stuff that did not belong to me. It was fun, it was exciting but due to the hit and run nature of the game I would not call my vandalism art, and I am not exactly proud of it either. The past years many new forms of streetart have emerged like stickers and cut-out posters and some funny use of charactershaped things on the street. But for the large part I think the movement is taking itself a little too serious and there is a lot of copieing eachother going on. Or could it be that it is being hijacked by gallerists and fashion brands who use the cool culture to sell more sneakers? Anyway, I don't want to hate on it, and I like many of Berlins wall decorations! Do you remember the big ones in Berlin?

This guy, BLU, is really pushing the boundries of streetart. Not only do his wallpaintings always have a sence of social commitment, they stand out in form, size and expression. Lately he has been experimenting with animation as well, his first film was already great, but his new film is an unbelievable display of inventive use of the surroundings. I don't want to imagine the amount of painting was needed to complete this piece of art. Forget about the street, this is much bigger!

  1. I don't know how the first piece of text got underlined, and I can't figure out how to make the underline go away. So you have to deal with it as it is.

  2. I cringe at the thought of the amounts of time (and paint) these people spent to make that video...
